In New Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has implemented strict actions against industries operating in unauthorized areas, resulting in the closure of 84 complexes and the termination of utilities at seven locations in a recent crackdown. Non-conforming industrial areas are those where businesses are operating without the appropriate permission. Around 26 such areas exist, with approximately 70% being used for industrial purposes. Some examples of these non-conforming locations include Khyala, Peeragarhi, Mundka, Hastsal, and Anand Parbat. The Delhi government is working on revitalizing some of these areas to improve the city's economy, generate employment opportunities, and benefit industrial businesses. In August and September, MCD teams inspected 520 units in non-conforming areas to ensure compliance with regulations. Licensing officers also inspected 215 factories in conforming areas, leading to the discovery that 43 factories were operating without the necessary licenses. After issuing notices, 31 factories applied for licenses while MCD contacted relevant departments to disconnect utilities at the remaining units. Those businesses were given a three-day deadline to respond or apply for the required licenses. In the absence of a reply, MCD took further action. A drive has also been launched to verify the status of units relocated from residential to industrial zones as part of the MC Mehta vs Union of India case.
